These five skills are also essential to succeeding as professors. They are:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.historians.org\/resource\/communication\/\"><strong>COMMUNICATION<\/strong><\/a>, in a variety of media and to a variety of audiences<\/li>\n<li><strong><a title=\"Collaboration\" href=\"https:\/\/www.historians.org\/resource\/collaboration\/\">COLLABORATION<\/a><\/strong>, especially with people who might not share your worldview<\/li>\n<li><strong><a title=\"Link to Quantitative Literacy\" href=\"https:\/\/www.historians.org\/resource\/quantitative-literacy\/\">QUANTITATIVE LITERACY<\/a>:<\/strong>\u00a0a basic ability to understand and communicate information presented in quantitative form, i.e., understanding that numbers tell a story the same way words, images, and artifacts do<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.historians.org\/resource\/intellectual-self-confidence\/\">INTELLECTUAL SELF-CONFIDENCE<\/a>:<\/strong>\u00a0the ability to work beyond subject matter expertise, to be nimble and imaginative in projects and plans<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.historians.org\/resource\/digital-literacy\/\">DIGITAL LITERACY<\/a>:<\/strong>\u00a0a basic familiarity with digital tools and platforms<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This guide presents an introduction to each skill\u2014adapted from posts originally published on\u00a0<em>AHA Today<\/em>\u00a0in Spring 2016\u2014as well as a list of AHA-produced resources that can help develop an understanding of that skill.
