{"id":88456,"date":"2025-01-09T20:15:37","date_gmt":"2025-01-10T01:15:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.historians.org\/?post_type=event&#038;p=88456"},"modified":"2025-01-28T15:21:30","modified_gmt":"2025-01-28T20:21:30","slug":"history-of-the-us-house-of-representatives","status":"publish","type":"event","link":"https:\/\/www.historians.org\/event\/history-of-the-us-house-of-representatives\/","title":{"rendered":"History of the US House of Representatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The American Historical Association (AHA) will host a Congressional Briefing offering historical perspectives on how the United States House of Representatives has changed since its creation.\u00a0The briefing will take place on Wednesday, January 29, at 9:00 a.m. ET in Rayburn House Office Building Room 2075.<\/p>\n<p>Panelists\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cla.purdue.edu\/directory\/profiles\/kathryn-cramer-brownell.html\">Kathryn Cramer Brownell<\/a> (Purdue Univ.),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/politics.catholic.edu\/faculty-and-research\/faculty-profiles\/green-matthew\/index.html\">Matthew Green<\/a>\u00a0(Catholic Univ.), and <a href=\"https:\/\/history.la.psu.edu\/directory\/rachel-shelden\/\">Rachel Shelden<\/a> (Pennsylvania State Univ.) will discuss how the structure, membership, and culture of the House of Representatives has changed over time. A breakfast spread and coffee will be served.<\/p>\n<p>The AHA\u2019s Congressional Briefings series seeks to provide Congressional staff members, journalists, and other members of the policy community with the historical context essential to understanding contemporary issues.
